Meetings in BM

In BIM (Building Information Modeling), meetings play a crucial role in ensuring collaboration, coordination, and alignment among all project stakeholders. Here are the common types of meetings in BIM workflows:

1. BIM Kick-off MeetingBIM Kick off meetings

  • Purpose:

Launch the BIM process for a project.

  • Key Points:
    • Review BIM Execution Plan (BEP).

    • Define roles, responsibilities, and collaboration protocols.

    • Align on software, standards (e.g., ISO 19650), and data exchange formats.

    • Set Common Data Environment (CDE) rules.

  • Participants:

All project stakeholders (client, consultants, contractors, BIM managers, coordinators).

2. BIM Coordination Meeting (Clash Detection Meeting)

  • Purpose:

Review and resolve model clashes and coordination issues.

  • Key Points:
    • Present clash reports (from Navisworks, Solibri, etc.).

    • Assign responsibilities for clash resolution.

    • Track progress on previous issues.

  • Frequency:

Weekly or bi-weekly, depending on project stage.

  • Participants:

BIM Coordinators, discipline leads (Architecture, Structure, MEP).

3. BIM Progress Review Meeting

  • Purpose:

Monitor BIM deliverables and modeling progress.

  • Key Points:
    • Review LOD (Level of Development) status.

    • Check milestones and upcoming deadlines.

    • Address any delays or technical challenges.

  • Participants:

BIM Managers, Project Managers, Model Authors.

4. BIM Technical Workshop

  • Purpose:

Deep-dive into technical BIM topics or resolve complex issues.

  • Key Points:
    • Standardization discussions.

    • Software interoperability.

    • Family/library creation guidelines.

  • Participants:

          BIM Specialists, Technical Leads.

5. BIM Validation & Quality Control Meeting

  • Purpose:

Ensure that models meet agreed standards and QA/QC requirements.

  • Key Points:
    • Review model audits.

    • Validate data accuracy (e.g., COBie, parameters).

    • Ensure compliance with BEP and ISO standards.

  • Participants:

          BIM Managers, QA/QC Teams.

6. Client BIM Review Meeting

  • Purpose:

Present BIM deliverables and updates to the client.

  • Key Points:
    • Showcase model progress.

    • Discuss client feedback.

    • Align expectations for future submissions.

  • Participants:

Client representatives, BIM Manager, Project Manager.

7. 4D/5D BIM Meeting (Planning & Cost)

  • Purpose:

Review time (4D) and cost (5D) simulations linked to BIM.

  • Key Points:
    • Validate construction sequencing.

    • Discuss budget implications.

    • Coordinate with planners (Primavera, MS Project) and cost consultants.

  • Participants:

          BIM Manager, Planners, QS, Contractors.

8. CDE & Information Management Meeting

  • Purpose:

Manage data flow within the Common Data Environment.

  • Key Points:
    • File naming, versioning, and approvals.

    • Information Delivery Milestones (IDM, MIDP, TIDP).

  • Participants:

          Information Managers, BIM Coordinators.

9. BIM Handover & Facilities Management Meeting

  • Purpose:

Prepare for project close-out and data handover.

  • Key Points:
    • Ensure Asset Information Model (AIM) readiness.

    • Discuss integration with FM systems.

  • Participants:

          BIM Manager, FM Team, Client.

10. Ad-hoc BIM Issue Resolution Meeting

  • Purpose:

          Quickly address urgent BIM-related issues.

  • Key Points:
    • Specific technical or coordination problems.

  • Participants:

Relevant team members based on issue type.

If you’re working on ISO 19650-compliant projects, these meetings will often align with structured Information Management processes.
